Defining Modern Tribalism & Echo Chamber Culture
I think a lot of people today fall victim to what I call:Tribal Cognition Syndrome (TCS)&Narrative Attachment Disorder (NAD)These aren’t official medical diagnoses. They’re concepts/frameworks I came up with to describe modern social and political behavior, especially online.I think social media and modern algorithms have created endless echo chambers where people become emotionally invested into tribes, narratives, ideologies, influencers, and “sides.”Once that emotional attachment happens, independent thinking can start fading.People stop questioning their own side. They defend contradictions. They reject outside perspectives automatically. And eventually loyalty to the tribe becomes more important than objective truth.Tribal Cognition Syndrome (TCS):When loyalty to a political, social, or ideological tribe starts overriding independent thought and objective reasoning.Narrative Attachment Disorder (NAD):When someone becomes emotionally attached to a narrative/worldview to the point where conflicting information feels like a personal attack. The scary part is most people don’t even realize it’s happening because the tribe rewards conformity while punishing questioning. And this applies to everybody.Left.Right.Religion.Media.Activism.Online communities.Corporations.Influencers.Nobody is completely immune from it.The goal shouldn’t be blind loyalty to tribes or narratives. The goal should be staying capable of thinking outside of them.
